The Wrens Nest appears to be trying to improve it's facilities, but it has a way to go. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean although very dated. The surroundings were pleasant and restful with a hammock in the trees nearby and rocking chairs on the sun deck.
I cannot speak for other peoples rooms or for the Jacuzzi rooms, but ours certainly needed major renovations. There was a very suspect looking a/c or heating unit that we did not want to use, a persistent smell of damp and dated and dirty looking carpets. Walls were paper thin and you could hear everything going on from the upstairs and adjacent rooms. The location was a bit further away from downtown Portsmouth than we had expected. None of this should reflect on the owners or staff as they were very pleasant and helpful and I believe are trying their best to improve the place.
The friendly and helpful manager and his "right hand man"
Staff wsa cordial and accomodating. Continental breakfast was good.
Cold water in the bathroom sink was not working. Waterfall in the spa was not working.
There was a whirlpool in the bathroom.
Room was dark, bed was uncomfortable. Decor was very old fashioned, and ugly. Couch was uncomfortable, tv did not work, Hot tub in the pool area did not work, no door on the bathroom... ( I understand that this is a romantic kinda place, but having no privacy in a bathroom is just weird) Strict regulation about charging $100.00 if an extra guest comes to the room.
Rooms needs to be upgraded, the bathroom window did not lock, the matress needs to be replaced it was in comfortable. cable could be upgraded
There was no hot water the morning we woke up and couldn't get ahold of anybody until after 8:30 in the morning. The room had a low level smell of being musty. There were cobwebs around the corners of the ceiling and around the light. There was no fridge in our room, not sure if it said we should have had one but it seems these days all rooms have a fridge. It said continental breakfast, well the person who checked me in said there would be cereal in the morning. That wasn't set up when I checked out at 8:45am.
I had a bed to rest my head. Most hotels were booked already for the weekend. They had a room available.
Skimpy continental breakfast.
Not a lot. It was very shabby with cracked hand basins, chipped paint work and poor decor. The noise level was terrible as the insulation between rooms was very poor. The noise was very loud from the couple in the room above us as the ceiling insulation was not good and they walked a lot during the night till about 04.00 and the creaking and footsteps were very loud indeed.
The above statement describes what we didn't like about Wren's Nest Village Inn.
They changed our room when we complained about the noise from the room above. The second room was much nicer than the first. Close to restaurants and downtown Portsmouth.
The sound-proofing from side-to-side and above is very poor. Could hear every word spoken and our ceiling creaked when the people above walked around at 2:30 am. Got zero sleep. The rooms weren't as nice as they were the last time I stayed there.
Disappointed with room. Many small things wrong such as burned out lightbulbs!! Not for the price of their rooms!! Will not stay there next time in town.
